Chelsea Football Club Confirms Rotary watches as Official Partner

Chelsea FC Star Striker Frank Lampard

WatchHub is one of the first retailers to be informed that Rotary watches has agreed a four year deal with Chelsea FC as official timekeeper.

Although partnerships between sports clubs and watch brands is nothing new, this is a first for the London Club.  Chelsea’s Chief Executuve, Ron Gourlay said he was “pleased to be joining forces with a Swiss fourth generation family owned watch brand which has a worldwide name.”  He also said  Chelsea’s star midfielder Frank Lampard would be the clubs official ‘Rotary Ambassador’.

Rotary’s Chief Executive Victoria Campbell was “excited” and “proud” with the tie up. “Like us, Chelsea enjoys a long standing heritage and operates on the world stage. Our partnership represents a mutually beneficial strategic alliance given that we share many common values.”

The two giants also share London as their base and coincidentally Rotary opened their first office in London in 1907 a year after the club was founded.

Rotary will join a host of other sponsors such as the Sauber F1 team, Audi, energy suppliers Gazprom, Delta airlines and Singha beer and Hackett, as well as the primary sponsors Samsung and Addidas.

Rotary LogoSold in over 45 countries worldwide, Rotary and are hoping the cost of the deal (which as yet is undisclosed) will be outweighed by the exposure of being tied to such an internationally recognised club.

This is a big move for Rotary and we wish them the best of luck.

Lego to Launch Watches for Adults

Lego Digital Watch

If you thought you were now too old to play with LEGO, think again as the Danish toy giant is set to launch a collection of wristwatches designed specifically for adults. Years after producing watches for their usual target audience of children, LEGO have decided to hit the adult market and appeal to those who are still kids at heart.

Even though the watches are styled and sized for adults, we understand the watches will have interchangeable parts such as swappable bezels and bracelet links, all adding to the fun. The ‘LEGO Watch System’, as the collection will be officially known, will hit the market in November 2013.

From unofficial leaks of the pre-production watches, we have an idea that the watch cases will be about 40mm wide and made of plastic, with some being partially aluminium or steel. There will also be an impressive variety of colours and shapes on offer, ranging from “silly to rather sensible”, with the ability to arrange bracelet links to customise the style of your own watch.

Lego Watch 2The LEGO watches are bound to have a nostalgic feel for many people who grew up playing with the famous building blocks as children; but the timepieces are set to be extremely practical and not just a gimmick.

We understand the watches will be priced between £70 to £150.

Double Celebrations as Accurist Watches Launches new Website and Announces WatchHub as Official Retailer

One of the few remaining family owned watch companies in the UK, the Accurist Watches ‘brand’ has grown unrecognisably from its humble start in 1946, in what was then the heart of the UK’s watch district, Clerkenwell – London.

Jonathan Crocker

Accurist CEO Jonathan Crocker

I spoke with Accurist’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Crocker at the recent International Jewellery Show in London’s Earls Court Exhibition Centre, where the brand was showing off its latest designs as part of its rebranding process.

Nominated by Watchpro magazine as being one of the top 100 personalities in the watch Industry, the instantly likeable Chief Executive was keen to impress upon me the brands proud British heritage.  Not wanting to interrupt, I didn’t let on that I was well aware of the brands ‘Britishness’ as my father worked as a watchmaker for Accurist in the 1970’s and that as a child I had opened countless Accurist watches in an effort to emulate my father.

Accurist’s National  Accounts Executive, Tim McManus spoke about the rebranding exercise as a “merging of its classic styles with modern design to create a fresh contemporary look, which will appeal to a wider audience.”

Accurist Lifestyle

You won’t be surprised to learn that I am delighted by Accurist’s rebranding and under the careful stewardship of Jonathan Crocker, I’m sure Accurist fans will be able to enjoy many more years of classic, affordable and stylish Accurist watches.
